Stop Pirating Your Own Works, Felix Duke Tells Artistes
Nigerian music artistes have been warned against pirating their own works. A one-time gospel act and presently dance-hall exponent, Felix Duke gave the admonition to his fellow acts while speaking Wednesday at a seminar organized by the publisher of City People Magazine, Mr. Seye Kehinde in conjunction with the Pretty Okafor-led Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) entitled “Revamped Music Industry”.
Felix Duke in his delivery which he described as words to encourage his fellow music acts, lamented that many artistes, due to lack of money to pursue their respective initial projects would deliberately walk to Alaba International Market to submit their incubating musical projects to unscrupulous labels for inclusion into what they call mixed tapes that add no value to the artistes’ fortune.
He said: “Hear this; my fellow artistes, stop going with your legs to Alaba to submit your musical works to the quasi label to include in their mixed tape for which you also pay without getting any return. By so doing you are killing your career before it gets started”
Felix Duke further stated that they should endure whatever hardship and challenges they are facing and trust that they would make it without necessarily going to waste their intellectual property in the hands of those who would always be ready to rip where they did not sew.
Other speakers at the event which largely attended by performing and recording acts, include the president of PMAN, Pretty Okafor, Sunny Neji Asha Gangali, Ruggedman and the publisher of City People Magazin.
