A Former Chairman of the defunct National Sports Commission, NSC and two time governor of Bendel State, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia has rubbished claims by Youth and Sports Mnister, Barrister Solomon Dalung that athletes don’t need much preparation to win medals at competitions. Speaking at his home in Benin Wednesday, Dr Ogbemudia, who will be 84 years old tomorrow, September 17 told this reporter that he was shocked that that assertion could come from a Minister of sports. “There is no other way to success except through training and constant practice. It is a known and proved fact that practice makes an athlete perfect”, he said, adding that “there are lots that can be done if one practice hard, we would always win. Solomon Dalung “ A swimmer told me in Munich (Germany) in 1972 that he has to swim over 30,000 km in water in four years in preparation for his 100m freestyle competition at the Olympic Games. There is no miracle in sports, but practice, practice and practice,” he stressed. Asking “wither Nigeria?” to buttress his disappointment on Team Nigeria’s poor outing at the Rio Olympics, Dr Ogbemudia affirmed that “The 2016 Rio Olympic Games has exposed our inadequacy in sports planning, preparation and execution (and) Nigeria and her well-wishers are embarrassed by the results. He revealed what he did to make Midwest and later Bendel state the number one in sports in Nigeria and the way forward after another Olympic failure. Stay with Sports Vanguard. It’s our Exclusive
