Lady Gaga To Perform During Super Bowl Half Time Show
Kalu Ikeagwu Recounts Experience In The Hands Of Earring-Wearing Abductors, Police
Nollywood
actor Kalu Ikeagwu has released a statement following
reports of his alleged arrest on
September 26, 2016.
Kalu Ikwuagwu |
Soft-sell magazine
Encomium reported that “he was
actually arrested by security agents following a robbery and homicide case”.
The publication
reported that the actor was arrested by the security agents wielding guns
arrested him at his home. It revealed that after his release that same day he
told his neighbours, “that his
personal assistant bought a stolen phone from Computer Village in Ikeja, and
the thieves reportedly killed one of the victims of the robbery”.
Ikeagwu released a
statement on Instagram about his arrest:
"Just to clear the air, I have this to say. I
was literally abducted at gunpoint by earring wearing men purported to be
policemen (they were five) in an unmarked Hiace bus with civilian number plates
and fake identity cards.
"They first claimed to be working on an abduction Abuja case which
changed to a robbery case, all while in transit. Even on getting to the police
station I was not allowed to go into the premises but was held outside. I
repeatedly asked to go into the station where I'd feel safer to ask whatever
questions that were burning in my mind regarding my traumatic experience. It
did not happen. Instead they told me a phone used for a kidnap was being sought
for, later the story changed to robbery then back to kidnap.
"As I write this piece I have not written any police statement in
any police station which strikes me as very odd. I'm still wondering why I was
molested and kidnapped just because a purported phone no was supposedly tracked
to phone.
"Why would they have to harass me when they already had details of
the buyer and seller of the phone? In a legitimate situation, the seller of the
stolen phone should be the key witness in this investigation, but in this case
the police are till now very reluctant to meet the seller. I know there are
mysteries I need to unravel in this case and I will try to get answers to them.
"It's so pathetic that one can get bad publicity from Nigerian
media just because they're so much in a hurry to copy that they forget the
importance of confirmation from all the parties involved.
"Publishing a story based solely on a neighbour's account isn't
true journalism, that's pure gossip and slander. We need real facts from the
media and we need protection from the police and not molestation".
He also shared a
video on Instagram detailing what went down.
The Nollywood actor
made his screen debut over 10 years ago and has starred in many hit series and
movies including MNet’s "Doctors’ Quarters", "Domino",
"Two Brides and a Baby" and Africa Magic hit series
"Tinsel".

For Peres Funeral Israelis, World Leaders Gather
Shimon Peres was being laid to rest on Friday in a ceremony
attended by thousands of admirers and dozens of international dignitaries — in
a final tribute to a man who personified the history of Israel during a
remarkable seven-decade political career and who came to be seen by many as a
potent symbol of hopes of Mideast peace.
U.S. President Barack Obama, former U.S. President Bill
Clinton and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas headlined a long list of world
leaders who converged on Israel's national cemetery, Mount Herzl, for the
event. In a nod to the Palestinian leader, Abbas sat in the front row at the
memorial service.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the gathering of
world leaders was a testament to Peres' optimism, quest for peace and love for
Israel.
"He was a great man of Israel. He was a great man of
the world. Israel grieves for him. The world grieves for him," Netanyahu
said.
Peres, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate who held every major
office in Israel, including president and prime minister, died Wednesday, two
weeks after suffering a stroke. He was 93.
Friday's funeral was Israel's largest gathering of
international dignitaries since the funeral of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin,
Peres' partner in peace, who was killed by a Jewish nationalist in 1995. The
funeral created numerous logistical and security challenges, and roads,
including the main highway from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, were closed.
Peres and Netanyahu were fierce political rivals and had
vastly different world visions. But Netanyahu said they enjoyed a strong
personal relationship and described Peres as a man of vision.
"I loved you. We all loved you. Farewell Shimon. Dear
man. Great leader," he said.
Peres' casket lay in state on Thursday outside the
parliament building, where thousands of people, including Clinton, came to pay
their respects. Early Friday, an honor guard escorted the casket, along with
Peres' family, along the short route to the cemetery.
Both Obama and Clinton were set to address the funeral.
Obama and Peres enjoyed a friendly relationship, and in 2012, Obama awarded
Peres the presidential Medal of Freedom. Clinton was president when Peres
negotiated a historic interim peace accord with the Palestinians in 1993.
The United States delegation also included Secretary of
State John Kerry and about 20 members of Congress and several administration
officials. French President Francois Hollande, Britain's Prince Charles, German
President Joachim Gauck and scores of other world leaders were also attending.
While Peres is viewed in the West as a visionary advocate
for peace, his legacy in the Arab world is mixed and reaction has been subdued.
Animosity toward Israel remains strong in the Arab world, especially at a time
of deadlock in peace efforts, and Peres is still associated with wars and
settlement construction that took place during his lengthy career.
Abbas, however, was one of the lone Arab voices to express
his sadness over Peres' death, and his aides say he wanted to recognize Peres
for his years of efforts to promote peace. Abbas and Netanyahu, who have barely
spoken to one another during the past seven years, briefly chatted at the
ceremony. Abbas greeted the families of Peres and Rabin, shaking hands and
hugging dovish Israeli leaders before he was seated in the front row.
In an unprecedented seven-decade political career, Peres
filled nearly every position in Israeli public life and was credited with
leading the country through some of its most defining moments: creating what is
believed to be a nuclear arsenal in the 1950s; disentangling its troops from
Lebanon and rescuing its economy from triple-digit inflation in the 1980s; and
guiding a skeptical nation into peace talks with the Palestinians in the 1990s.
A protege of David Ben-Gurion, Israel's founding father and
first prime minister, Peres served in parliament for nearly half a century,
held every major Cabinet post, including defense, finance and foreign affairs,
and served three brief stints as prime minister. He was the country's elder
statesman as its ceremonial president between 2007 and 2014.
Peres created his non-governmental Peres Center for Peace,
which raised funds and ran programs for cooperation and development projects
involving Israel, the Palestinians and Arab nations. He was a huge proponent of
Israeli technology and innovation, and gained international recognition as a
globe-trotting celebrity preaching peace and coexistence.

Idol Worshippers Beat Me With Charms, Says Pastor Ogun-Cleric-Stuck-In-Shrine
The pastor who allegedly got stuck in a shrine in Ketu
community, Ayetoro, in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, Prince
Wale Fagbire, has denied being struck by idols while destroying their shrines,
reports Vanguard. Pastor Fagbire, who presides over Christ
Apostolic Church, Ona-Iye, Ayetoro, said he was instructed not to utter a word
after he destroyed the shrines. Pastor Wale Fagbire
(Ogun-Cleric-Stuck-in-Shrine Saga) The embattled pastor spoke at a briefing
organised by Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Ogun State chapter,
yesterday, in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Pastor Fagbire had told his
congregation that he had been directed by God to destroy all the shrines in
Ketu community. However, while carrying out the mission, he allegedly got
stuck, looking like a statue. This prompted the people in the area to raise
alarm. Reacting to the report, the state Chairman of CAN, Bishop Tunde
Akin-Akinsanya, described the reports as exaggerated, adding that the body
intended to change the misconception about the incident. While sharing his
ordeal with newsmen, the embattled pastor, who said he comes from a ruling
house, said he waited deliberately for the idol worshippers to see him. ‘I
obeyed God’s instruction’ He said: “It was from God and direction by the Holy
Spirit for the deliverance of Ayetoro from darkness. God told me that I should
go to the shrine and bring out those things for the liberation of Ayetoro. “He
told me to do three things in the shrine: evacuate the idols, step aside and
watch the film and not say anything, when people come out to see me. I got
there around 5a.m., and did as God asked me to. “It was not their gods
that held me, it was the idol worshippers that struck me with their charms.
“When I was taken to the palace, I told them that all my actions were directed
by God and not anybody or the church. Although they tried many charms on me,
none was effective. I am healthy.” Regional Coordinator of Yewa/Awori for
Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Apostle Lola Dada, explained that the idol
worshippers asked the pastor’s family to bring N300,000, while CAN was asked to
pay N200,000 to appease the gods. Dada, who spoke for CAN Chairman, said: “He
was handed over to the police and the police charged the case to court. The
idol worshippers withdrew the case from the court, saying they cannot take the
son of their late oba to court and the case was withdrawn the same day. “The
idol worshippers went to Jesus Triumphant Army Church at Ayetoro, which is
headed by Pastor Wale Olojede. The church, which had hosted Prince Fagbire, is
close to the shrine. “The worshippers said it was the church that encouraged
him to do what he did. So, the idol worshippers’ transferred their aggression
to the church. They went there and barricaded the church with sacrifice and
palm fronds, but the Christian youths removed them. “They demanded for things
they want to use for sacrifice and asked the pastor’s family to pay N300,000,
while CAN should bring N200,000, making it N500,000, for the sacrifice to
appease their gods. But no money was given to them and peace has returned to
the town.”
