Nigeria’s top data telecommunications company, Globacom, has
been named the Exclusive Telecom Partner of this year’s edition of the Akwa
Ibom State Christmas Carol Festival.
The annual event which is in its 9th edition is
the second that will be sponsored by Globacom. The 2016 edition has the theme
“Let Our King Be Lifted High."
Globacom said in a statement in Lagos that the company was
sponsoring the event again this year following the huge success of the
carols last year. It would be recalled that the carols attracted
first-class artistes from all over the world, including two Grammy award
winners.
“We fully identify with the Akwa Ibom Christmas Carol
festival which has become one of the biggest crowd-pulling events of the
Yuletide season. Our desire is to follow the passion of Nigerians and connect
them with their passion”, Globacom said.
International artistes expected at this year’s edition of
the Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival include multiple award-winning
international gospel artiste, Don Moen; the PRM band from the United Kingdom,
The Kayamba Africa Choral Ensemble and the Kenya Boys Choir.
Expected to perform from Nigeria are such top gospel
acts as Sammie Okposo, Buchi, Steve Crown, Elijah Oyelade, Rev. Fr. Patrick
Edet, Esther Edoho, Julius Nglass and Perfecta Ekpo.
Some of the high points of last year’s event will also be
present this year, including Ibom Orchestra, The Ibom Brass Band and the Akwa
Ibom State Government Choir. The star attraction will be the globally acclaimed
10,000-man choir which has a record of rendering Christmas Carols as never
heard before.
The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has sent
a message of appreciation to Globacom for accepting to be part of this year’s
event.
Akwa Ibom Christmas Carol made history in 2012 by
featuring a 9,999-member choir which was reputed to be the largest choir on the
continent at that time.
The event holds on Saturday December 17, 2016 at the
Uyo Township Stadium. It will be shown live by leading broadcast stations
such as DSTV (on Africa Magic and dedicated channels), AIT, Channels TV
and AKBC.
