What I Have Works For Me__ Dr Sid
Dr Sid was recently interviewed by a news outlet where he got talking about when he would be releasing a body of work, the growth of the Nigerian music industry in his opinion, amongst other things.
In the interview, The ‘Over the moon’ singer revealed he would not be releasing an album this year till 2017 except things dramatically change, adding that he has some singles to drop this year.
On controversies that have trailed the industry since the beginning of the year, Sid made it known that he doesn’t like to dwell on controversies but would rather discuss the growth of the industry.
“The industry has witnessed its rise, its stagnation and its peak. For me, I am happy to see that Nigerian music is branching out into different genres. Before the music industry didn’t really have genres. It was always about what was bumping in the clubs,” the Mavin singer said, going ahead to praise the likes of Bez, Timi Dakolo and Falz for their genres of music, and their type of music which Nigerians have come to embrace
“It is nice to see that people can now embrace other genres of music. And this has given room for a surge of creativity. The music industry was kind of squeezed into a single genre and that limited growth and creativity. I believe that music is art and art forms should not be put in boxes,” the singer opined.
Against the odds of a lack of proper structure hindering the growth of the industry, the ‘Surulere’ crooner thinks Nigerians are very resourceful people and all that is left is to package our content to the world more profitably.
Speaking on why he didn’t join the rest of the former Mo’hits crew in the exodus, the singer said he has a good working relationship with Don Jazzy.
“When we are in studio we create together. It was really natural. Don Jazzy is the person I have great bond, respect and relationship with. When the rumours came out I was the one that broke up MoHits Records there was really no need to talk then. It is easy to point accusing fingers or blame on someone. But people need to really get the facts right. And honestly thinking about it now, I might have had a part to play in the whole. That is the honest truth.” said Dr Sid.
The singer was finally quizzed on whether he would be floating a label of his soon in the future, and he replied, saying that just because it seems to be the new trend, making reference to the Lil Kesh YAGI and YBNL new relationship, people think that he should do same.
“If you are in a situation that works, if every of your needs are met, if you have a great boss, your bank account is credited timely, everything is fine, why would you want to leave?” he stated, commenting further that it is not easy to start up a label as owning one should be seen as a business where you have to look out for not yourself alone but other people, and added that he gets what is due him at Mavin and vice-versa making it all a fine business partnership.
“I do not have a problem with anyone opening their own label. If it works for them fine. I am not going to put myself in a situation just because everybody says or is doing so. What I have works,” Sid further added.
Dr Sid recently dropped a video for latest single 'The best'.
