Monkees Tour 2016: Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork Heading To Australia, New Zealand

Hey, hey it's the Monkees ... Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork are heading to Australia and New Zealand for a tour celebrating 50 years of the perky, psychedelic 1960s pop band. Dolenz, the band's drummer and singer, and Tork, the bass guitarist, are heading this way for a 10-date tour starting in November.
The group has reformed to tour several times since calling it quits in 1970. Most recently the three remaining members, including guitarist Mike Nesmith, reunited for shows following the death of the band's front man Davy Jones in 2012. Although Nesmith no longer tours, Dolenz and Tork will be hitting the road, across venues in Sydney, Melbourne, Christchurch and Auckland. The mop-headed foursome were assembled in 1965 by two producers seeking "four insane boys", as the classified ad went, for a new TV show about an aspiring band, inspired by the Beatles' A Hard Day's Night. The charming, often slapstick series about the four goofballs ended in 1968 but spawned a huge catalogue of hits including Last Train to Clarksville, I'm a Believer, Pleasant Valley Sunday and Daydream Believer, selling more than 75 million records worldwide.
Despite being known as the Prefab Four as a derisive take on the band's artificial origins – unheard of at that time – the band ended up out-selling both the Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined in 1967. A new album Good Times!, which spring boarded off the back of the 50th celebrations and a mix of previously unreleased and new tracks, was released in May. Pre-sale tickets are on sale at 9am on June 15, with general sales tickets on June 16. Tour Dates: November 29 - Christchurch, Isaac Theatre November 30 - Auckland, ASB Theatre December 2 - Brisbane, QPAC December 3 - Tweed Heads, Twin Towns December 5 - Hobart, Wrest Point December 7 - Melbourne, Palais Theatre December 9 - Canberra, Llewellyn Theatre December 10 - Sydney, State Theatre December 11 - Adelaide, Thebarton Theatre December 13 - Perth Concert Hall
