President Muhammadu Buhari, Tuesday told the Senate that the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo would act on his behalf as president for the 11 days that he would be on medical vacation but did not state where he was travelling to.
In a letter addressed to the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, President Buhari said he was writing in line with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 constitution as amended.
According to the letter which was read at plenary today, Tuesday by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu the president said he will be away from 6th- 16th of June, 2016.
The letter read, “In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999 constitution as amended, I wish to inform the Distinguished Senate that I will be away n a short medical vacation from 6th-16th of June, 2016, and while I am away, the Vice President (Osinbajo) will perform the functions of my office.
“Please, accept, as always assurances of my highest esteemed consideration.”
In the letter to the Senate, President Buhari did not intimate the lawmakers where he was traveling to for the short medication vacation.
It would be recalled that President Buhari, had last week, visited the Aso Villa clinic, where he was treated for an undisclosed ear infection.
The presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina, had however, claimed that the president was hale and healthy, thereby casting doubts on the rumours.
But Adesina made a U-turn last Sunday, when he admitted that Buhari had an ear infection and would therefore travel to the United Kingdom for a 10-day medical vacation.
