Kiss Daniel About To Make Statement With ‘Featureless’ Debut Album
Kiss Daniel intends to stick to that formula which has guided him thus far. Here is a man who broke through with no help from the stars, and has built on that with very little help. His first body of work, an ambitious album, will reflect that.
Go through the annals of Nigerian pop music and you would find it hard to point at an act who wants to pull off what Kiss Daniel is about to do.
The G-Worldwide Entertainment star is set to drop his debut album “New Era”, and has made public the track list. Containing 21 songs, the album is set to have no guest appearance save for his label mate, Sugarboy. That’s brave.
Kiss Daniel has a relatively short history at the top of Nigerian mainstream music. Breaking on to the scene in 2015 with his impressive ‘Woju’ single, the young man has gone on to consolidate his success by the acceptance of singles ‘Good time’, and ‘Laye’. In between, a remix for ‘Woju’, featuring Tiwa Savage and Davido has dropped, and also has he played a role in the popular single ‘Raba’ by DJ Shabsy. Last month, he dropped the single ‘Mama’, which is still living on its promotion spend.
All of these has led Kiss Daniel to this path of an album release, and the star intends to make a statement by having no star guest on his project. The last mainstream act to have towed this line was Olamide. The rapper’s album “Eyan Mayweather”, contained no one, not even a feature from his protégés. Kiss Daniel is walking a similar rope, by including Sugarboy, who has no true hit to his name.
What has made the singer so bold? Kiss Daniel’s success in the music industry so far has come from his individual songs. All of his hit singles has been solo singles, with him working closely with DJ Coublon, and supplying all the other ingredients to carry the song. Only ‘Woju’ remix had the names of two superstars, and it did polarize opinion. Many felt their addition took away from the song’s melody.

“New Era” is set for release in stores on May 15, 2016, with an album release concert being put together by the label. That concert will have a galaxy of stars come out to show support with 2face Idibia, Banky W, Burna Boy and many others playing leading men. Perhaps they might come together for a collaboration with the man. But that collaboration won’t be on the album.
