Adekunle Gold To Release Debut Album Soon
Adekunle Gold has revealed he would be pushing his debut album release date until early July after the Ramadan season which is expected to last from June 6, 2016 to July 5, 2016.
He made this known via a Now O’ Clock podcast hosted byWole in an episode 1 tagged “Creatives and Criticism” with Adekunle Gold.
“I am pushing it forward a bit because of Ramadan, it was supposed to drop for June 1 before, but apparently it occurred to me that my muslim friends don’t listen to music during Ramadan, so it makes sense to push it forward because of them as well, so by God’s grace in July after Ramadan, and all of us can enjoy it together,” the singer said.
He then goes ahead to talk about the album making process and dynamics, and dealing with criticisms in the industry from fans. He also revealed who his music influences are and which international acts he would love to collaborate with, amongst other entertaining tidbits.
It has been reported in the news that Gold may be following the footsteps of Lil Kesh in exiting YBNL label after releasing his debut album according to a source from The Herald saying“After his album drops in June, Kunle may leave YBNL to focus on his own label too”.

"New Era," By Kiss Daniel Makes Debuts On Billboard Charts
Kiss Daniel's album, "New Era" has now made its debut on the Billboard World Album Chart, marking a huge milestone for the fast rising star.
After a decision by the singer and the G-Worldwide Entertainment, to release his debut album “New Era” without any major features, an action best described as an uncalculated risk, many critics at the time have now become ardent fans.
The album, “New Era” which was released on the 14 of May 2016, with only fellow label mate, Sugarboy as a feature, has since gone on to become a success and a fan favourite within days of its release.
The album is now charting at number 8 on the Billboard World Album Chart (Subscription required), apart from the other milestones in the form of the album charting on the UK and US iTunes Charts within hours of release.
As an artiste who believes a lot in his God-given talent and his hard work, Kiss Daniel’s rise to the top of the music industry within a few years, lends credence to the fact that talent and hard work trumps hype every time.
Since his debut into the Nigerian music scene in 2014, Kiss Daniel has released hit after hit such as “Woju”, “Laye”, “Good time”, and more recently “Mama” which has retained the position of the most played song on Nigerian Radio for two weeks straight, according to PlayData Charts.
For Kiss Daniel; “These feats and triumphs are a testament of the massive love my fans have for me, and how dedicated they are to me by going out to buy my music, and request for it on radio”.
It will be difficult now for music lovers and followers across Africa not to give credit to this gifted artiste who has been dubbed “a young hybrid of TuBaba and 9ice”, and as his success spreads from country to country in Africa, we can be rest assured that this is no African superstar who rests on his oars.
Billboard Charts are a weekly ranking of top-selling world music albums, ranked by sales data as compiled by Nielsen Music.

Court Declares PDP Care-taker Committee Illegal
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Monday declared as illegal the newly constituted caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Justice Ibrahim Buba, while making the pronouncement directed the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, to ensure that the newly constituted members of the committee do not take over the position of the party’s acting National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
Recall that the party had on Saturday sacked Sheriff while constituting a caretaker committee headed by a former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, during its National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The party had also mandated the committee to elect a new National Working Committee, NWC, within three months.

Missing N30trn: The Case Against Me Is Politically Motivated – Okonjo
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former Minister of Finance has denied knowledge of any court case asking her to account for an alleged missing N30 trillion. The former finance minister described the case in a Lagos court as “dubious” and “politically motivated.”
Last week, a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos asked Okonjo-Iweala and former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration to offer explanation on the alleged missing funds in a suit filed by the Socio-Economic Right Accountability Project (SERAP). But, Okonjo-Iweala, through her media aide, Paul Nwabuikwu, said she had not been served with the court judgment but added that she had instructed her lawyers to take legal action on the matter.
“The High Court, according to media reports, ordered the Federal Government and Okonjo-Iweala to provide information relating to N30 trillion allegedly unaccounted for.
“Okonjo-Iweala hastens to state that she was never served with any court processes in relation to the said matter. She has not read the judgment and would, therefore, defer any comments on the matter. However, from the media reports, the case was instituted in February 2015 but was not served until July 2015 after Okonjo-Iweala had already ceased to be the minister of finance.
“By the date the said papers were purportedly served, Okonjo-Iweala was no longer a public officer and could, therefore, not be the subject of a request for production of any documents or information under the Freedom of Information Act.
“The court processes must have been served on others because the attention of Okonjo-Iweala was never drawn to the matter in which she appears to have been sued personally. She, therefore, did not engage any lawyer to act for her in the matter…”
“The decision of SERAP to anchor its case on a baseless and unsubstantiated allegation by former CBN governor, Charles Soludo that N30 trillion – about seven times the total annual budget during the Jonathan administration – is missing confirms SERAP’s dubious motives and its role as a tool for politically motivated actors.
“It is curious that the first time Okonjo-Iweala is being made aware of a matter filed against her in court is in news reports, reporting the delivery of judgment. She has instructed her lawyers to take steps to set aside the judgment as it affects her.”

Okorocha Threatens To Privatise IMSU Over Striking Workers
Imo State Government has warned that it would be forced to recruit new set of academic and non-academic staff for Imo State University, IMSU, as well as concession the institution if the workers fail to call off their strike, reports Vanguard.
Governor Rochas Okorocha, who read the riot act in Owerri, was also of the opinion that the emoluments of IMSU staff was higher than what obtains in other state universities in the South-East geo-political zone. He said: “A comparative analysis has been made with other state universities in the South-East zone and it was discovered that Imo pays far more than other states. IMSU workers only argued that the institution offers qualitative studies than the other state-owned universities in the South-East.”
While admitting that he made an earlier promise of N800 million to the school, the Governor, however, warned that the non-redemption of the promise is not enough reason to shut down the university.
He said: “Honestly, if the workers fail to call off the strike, I will hire new teachers and concession the university to any willing investor, in the interest of our children. “I have discovered that most IMSU lecturers are not happy with the free education programme of my administration. They want it to fail. Perhaps, they want the students to pay school fees and this is not what I am prepared to accommodate.”

“Yes I am in Cote d’Ivoire, I have been here for a week resting and this is my second trip to the country since I stepped down as president.
“I have made sacrifices for Nigeria. I am praised all over Africa for averting bloodshed and for the peaceful transition from one government to another, but it seems Nigeria does not appreciate my efforts.
“I have done my best for this country and if I have to die for it, I will do so. However, I am taking it easy here (Cote d’Ivoire) and when I am ready, I will come back,” he said
Patience Ozokwor Turns Born-again, Dumps Trouser, JewelrY, Nollywood
Popular Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor aka Mam G is now a "born again" christain, according to reports .
The veteran thespian in a new press interview, revealed her new religious life, how she met God, the retreats she holds and having to ditch wearing trousers, dreadlocks and jewellery.
Famous for her ‘wicked mother-in-law’ roles, Ozokwor revealed she fasted for 30 days this year which led to a revelation.
According to her, the Lord revealed she will be a voice for him all over the world.
She said, "[Patience Ozokwor] normally organises a personal retreat for herself in the first few days of the new year, when it was time to have her 2016 retreat, she heard the voice of the Holy Spirit telling her to fast for 21 days, she complained that she have so many projects to handle, Endorsements and movies to shoot within that period, and the Lord extended it to a 30 days fast due to her complaints. During this fasting period, The Lord revealed to her, how she will be a voice for him all over the world, how people’s attention will be channeled from her image on Nollywood to The Gospel.
She said one of the things God warned her on, was her dressing and appearance. She said that Putting on Makeup, wearing Jewelry and putting on Trouser as a Lady is wrong, she said that she has been preaching to colleagues in Nollywood, but God told her to put off her Dreads, to stop wearing Jewelries and Trousers, that she could have gone to Hell, if she died December 31, 2015 despite the preaching she’s been doing, just because of her appearance.
When asked about her Nollywood life, Patience Ozokwor narrated that the Holy Spirit has not specifically directed her to quit or to not. She said that she has not shot any movie since that encounter in January, that she used to get an average of 1.5 Million Naira weekly, but that God has miraculously been providing her daily bread.
She warned that it will be harder for colleagues in the movie industry, with permanent tattoos and eyebrows when they eventually encounter Christ. She also said that she should stop being referred to as Mama G, as that name was for when she was in the world."

We Have Not Been In Government Before, We did Not know The Rot In The System ___Oyegun
Just recently, the national chairman of the ruling party, APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, said that they had not been in government before and did not know the rot in the system. But when they campaigned for the 2015 elections, they postulated that they possessed the knowledge, capacity and experience to fix Nigeria should they wrest power from the "clueless" President Jonathan/PDP administration. Now that President Buhari/APC government has been groping in a process of lack-lustre approach to proper governance, APC chair has deemed it expedient to make a poor attempt at explaining away their inadequacies. What does he want Nigerians to make of his statement?
Chocolate City Record Label Rolls Out 'Super Cool Cats', JagzNation' As Sub Labels
Chocolate City Group has unveiled two music labels Super Cool Cats and JagzNation as record label imprints under the popular Chocolate City Music label.
This makes them become the first African record label to follow in the footsteps of international heavy weights such as Universal Music and Sony Music Group. The two labels are owned and headed by Ice Prince and Jesse Jagz respectively.
At a press conference held today to announce the new structure, Chocolate City Music CEO – Jude “MI” Abaga, answered the questions of an impressive gathering of press men and tackled live questions from fans on social media who were keen to know how the relationship between Chocolate City Music, Ice Prince and Jesse Jagz would unfold going forward.
The press were eager to know about the breaking away of two of the most popular artistes on the label, to which MI replied by saying it was not a destruction of Chocolate City, but an investment in the two new imprints towards building an empire emphasizing that this announcement has been in the works for months and it is easier for both prolific artistes to keep up with the pace of their creativity when under their own independent labels.
According to Ice Prince “Super Cool Cats is beyond a music label, as we are already working with fashion designers, video directors etc.; it is in fact a full platform for different expressions of the arts” He also mentioned that he is already working on an urban line with Seyi Sanusi popularly known as “Sneaker Boy”. Jesse Jagz was cool, calm and all smiles as he told the press that being an artist under a large label limits his creativity, but that having his own record label gives him more creative freedom and control on his content.
MI, who gave an illustration of the relationship between Aftermath Entertainment, Records, Shady Records and G Unit Records, encouraged the press to do more research on music labels globally to find out how well structured and diverse they all are. He also responded to a question that he is still a recording artiste and has been in the studio working on new singles and an album to be released very soon.
MI wrapped up the conference by responding to a fan tweet about Milli’s exit; explaining that the rapper was not dropped from the label, but left amicably and that Milli will be in the best position to answer about what he is up to now.
With the press conference anchored by Ehiz Okoeguale of MTV Base, the record label was able put to rest rumours about an ugly spat with Ice Prince, and gave fans and industry watchers information about the various upcoming releases and events from the Chocolate City family to look out for.
Nobody Has Asked Me To Account For N30trn, Says Okonjo Iweala
Erstwhile finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has debunked reports that she was asked by a Federal High Court to account for N30 trillion which was alleged missing during the Goodluck Jonathan administration.
The court order was said to have been issued in connection to a suit filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).
Okonjo-Iweala’s denial was contained in a statement released by her media aide, Paul Nwabuikwu.
It reads:
Our attention has been drawn to media reports regarding a court judgment alleged to have been entered against the federal government of Nigeria and Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in respect of an action by the Socio-Economic Rights Agenda (SERAP) pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act.
The high court, according to the media reports, ordered the Federal government and Dr. Okonjo-Iweala to provide information relating to N30 trillion Naira allegedly unaccounted for. Dr Okonjo-Iweala hastens to state that she was never served with any court processes in relation to the said matter.
She has not read the judgment and would therefore defer any comments on the matter. However from the media reports, the case was instituted in February 2015 but was not served until July 2015 after Dr Okonjo-Iweala had already ceased to be the Minister of Finance. By the date the said papers were purportedly served Dr Okonjo-Iweala was no longer a public officer and could therefore not be the subject of a request for production of any documents or information under the Freedom of information Act.
The court processes must have been served on others because the attention of Dr Okonjo-Iweala was never drawn to the matter in which she appears to have been sued personally. She therefore did not engage any lawyer to act for her in the matter. The decision of SERAP to anchor its case on a baseless and unsubstantiated allegation by former CBN governor Professor Charles Soludo that N30 trillion – about seven times the total annual budget during the Jonathan administration – is missing confirms SERAP’s dubious motives and its role as a tool for politically motivated actors.
It is curious that the first time Dr Okonjo-Iweala is being made aware of a matter filed against her in court is in news reports reporting the delivery of judgment. She has instructed her lawyers to take steps to set aside the judgment as it affects her.
Sheriff Drags PDP Governors To Court
The embattled former National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Ali Modu Sheriff has threatened to drag the governors elected under the party’s platform to court over his removal from office, reports New Telegraph.
Sheriff was removed from office on Saturday and replaced by former governor of kaduna State, Ahmed Markafi.
Sheriff, who was denied access to the party’s national secretariat by policemen who sealed off the area on Sunday, described the decision at the National Convention in Port Harcourt as a nullity.
He described the caretaker committee as a contraption since there was nothing of such in the party’s constitution.
Sheriff on Sunday night met with other sacked National Working Committee (NWC) members in his Maitama residence in Abuja.
Sheriff and the sacked NWC members have consulted their lawyers to tell them on the next line of action.
The PDP governors according to reports had on Saturday played a fast one on Sheriff by removing him from office after they had initially supported him to continue as National Chairman.
Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, who spoke on behalf of other PDP governors, explained that the leadership of the PDP dumped Sheriff because his leadership was destabilising the party.
Wike, who chaired the party’s 2016 National Convention Planning Committee, noted that he and others supported Sheriff when he was the best option, but decided to replace him due to the opposition to his emergence.
FG Halts Talks Over MTN $3.9bn Fine
The Federal Government has surprisingly has suspended talks with mobile operator MTN about reducing the $3.9 billion fine that was imposed on the company.
Then it will be recalled that the Nigerian unit of South African company MTN was prosecuted because it had not disconnected unregistered SIM cards – cards that the government feared were being used by terrorists.
The latest twist comes as an influential group of lawyers has called for the vice-chairman of the country’s regulator to be sanctioned for getting involved in the negotiations over reducing the fine.
There was no immediate explanation for the suspension of talks between Nigeria and MTN, announced on Monday morning.
The Safari That Never Was
By Pita Okute
This, let us admit, is how we may describe Sambisa Forest; evil jungle of Northeast Nigeria that has crept into world history as an infernal den of iniquity and mayhem. Yes, there was a time when that huge expanse of wooded territory, big as Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi States combined, sources say, evoked a bright dream of economic progress: When the authors of the Third National Development Plan, to date Nigeria’s most ambitious investment outlay, mapped out the area for its rich treasury of flora and fauna.
Following on the success of Yankari, celebrated game reserve in Bauchi that was birthed by the First Republic, the Gowon administration wanted a louder repeat in Sambisa to equal the famed safari spots of East and Southern Africa.
Long live the Safari. This exotic overland adventure is the enduring magic of the African continent, with package tours and private trips spanning the East Coast, from Kenya through Uganda and Tanzania to Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Namibia and South Africa. From patches of sprawling savannah to thick rain forests, the modern safari is a fun filled encounter with the African wilds. The vast array of animals- buffalo, elephants, antelopes, giraffes, crocodiles, and the big cats-lions, leopards, cheetahs, not forgetting the wild boar, hippos, rhinos, foxes and game birds of every kind- provide visual evidence of a multi splendored world and the great diversity of nature.
Sambisa was billed to top the Nigerian safari trail from Calabar through Ikom, the Mambilla and Jebba to Bauchi and other less popular game reserves. Your guess is as good as mine what became of the wild life in Sambisa, after successive governments abandoned the project and Boko Haram found it a suitable launch pad for its dream of an Islamic republic.
The African Safari used to be synonymous with big game hunting. Rich tourists from around the world converged in their hundreds to track and kill the animals merely for sport. Arguably, the world is wiser now about the harmful effects of this unconscionable pastime. Unregulated hunting of wild life turned the unfortunate animals to endangered species. The modern safari- the word comes from the Arab/Kiswahili word for journey- is a leisurely encounter with the animal kingdom. In place of hunting rifles, tourists are now armed with cameras for the harmless, more exciting shots of wild animals feasting, mating or simply being themselves as they deem fit.
This ennobling aspect of the safari has spun a fashion kit in its wake- safari jackets; belted shirts with four large pockets- which become suits when worn with matching pants, shorts and skirts. No wonder then that even the Vatican thought it quite cool to label the 1980s African tour of the late Pope John Paul II as a “spiritual safari”. A book, Safari Style, by Natasha Burns and Tim Beddows, explores the decorative art of safari lodges around Africa. Taken all together, these developments have given to our world that freshening perspective on eco tourism, in which man and animals are co-heirs of a shared commonwealth.
The African Safari comes in various packages to suit individual pockets and preferences. Package tours are affordable and convenient. One enjoys the company of a multicast of people from different parts of the world, a kind of “safari” within a safari. Yet, it’s more fun to go independently, but always in the safe company of tour guides and game wardens whose knowledge of the reserves and the peculiar habits of their wild life can be most invaluable.
Dollar for dollar, therefore, the safari is that incomparably exciting and enlightening parley with the wilds for which there is yet no substitute. That might have provided the creative sparks for Apple Inc. to name its 2003 web browser, Safari. It was reputed to be the fastest browser at the time, and its net share of the market swung up then; in imitation it would seem, of the alluring drama of the African Safari.
Clearly, Nigeria has missed out on the eco tourist potentials of Sambisa. When eventually, the place is reclaimed from Boko Haram and decontaminated of their landmines, Sambisa may host another kind of tour packaging similar to what obtains at the War Museum in Umahia. Even so, the development of the other games reserves to their full potential has been rather slow, what with our great addiction to oil as a major cash cow. Who can blame Lai Muhammad, Minister of Information and Culture, for seeking to improve on this situation with a progressive shot at cultural tourism?
Pity, that in trying to achieve this, he fell for the heady obsession of Nigerian public officials-to wit, their craze for international events or summit/conference tourism and safaris. Now, will his controversial China trip hold, or will it be another safari that was not?

PMAN FG, IGP Wade Into Land Scandal
A land dispute that has been wracking The Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) for years is yet to be resolved and the Inspector General of Police and the Federal Government have been involved.
In a letter dated April 25 2016 addressed to the Inspector General of Police and copied Mr. President Mohammadu Buhari and the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation and signed by Mr. Pretty Okafor and Dr Kenny George, PMAN President and General Secretary respectively, which had its heading “MONUMENTAL FRAUD, STEALING, FORGERY AND CRIMINAL CONVERSION OF PMAN LANDED PROPERRTY IN ABUJA AGAINST MR TEE MAC AND HIS COHORTS” the Association states that:
1. The Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria otherwise known as PMAN as registered under the Trade Union’s Act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, was allocated a parcel of land measuring more than 8 hectares for the purpose of developing a modern day music and entertainment complex in Abuja by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 1992 and thereafter, reallocated between 1999 and 2003. While arrangements were being made to develop the place in accordance with the original plan, Mr. Tee Mac Omatshola Itseliin 2010, clandestinely went to the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and registered ‘Performing Musician Association of Nigeria’ - using the same acronym (PMAN), with which he deceived the FCT authorities that granted him a certificate of occupancy of the said land.
2. The Trade Unions Act, section 20 and as amended makes it a criminal offence for anybody or group of persons to register an Association or Union similar to an existing one.
3. Mr. Tee Mac Omatshola Itseli was neither an officer nor an official of PMAN as at 2010 when he did all these things.
4. Since dubiously acquiring the said land, Mr. Tee Mac Omatshola Itseli has never allowed peace to reign in PMAN as he keeps sponsoring one form of crisis or the other, amongst other things.
Meanwhile the Inspector General of Police Mr. Solomon Arasehas set up a high powered investigation into the matter, by inviting all those involved in the issue to come and say what they know.
With this development, it is hoped that the union and the industry will soon heave a sigh of relief as the cause of the perennial crisis of the union will soon be over.
To underscore the significance of this development, PMAN shall very soon use its strengths and energy to carry out such tasks that will spell good for our country through restructuring and repositioning the practice standard of the industry to conform with the international ones as obtained in Europe, America and Asia which positively impacts on the economies of such countries.
Nigeria is noted for its huge potentials in this regards. But the crisis in PMAN over the years has denied the country the opportunity to benefit from its huge resources in the creative economy which is now structured to generate revenue of over 9trillion naira according to recent statistic published by CNN.
Our belief in this is informed by the fact that we now have a President, His Excellency, Mohammadu Buhari who does not tolerate corruption.
Woman Faces Deportation From UAE For Checking Husband's Phone
A woman was fined and ordered to be deported from the United Arab Emirates for breaching her husband's privacy by checking his cell phone to see if he was cheating on her, Gulf News reported on Wednesday.
The unnamed Arab expatriate was fined 150,000 dirhams ($40,843) by the criminal court in the emirate of Ajman, the English-language newspaper said.
Her lawyer told the paper she had accused her husband of having an affair. She admitted she had accessed his phone without his permission and transferred photos to her device, the lawyer added.
The husband lodged a complaint with the court which convicted her on Thursday last week under a cybercrime law which penalises "the invasion of privacy of another person" using information technology, the paper said.
It said the couple was within the 30s age range but gave no other information.

Ibori: Counsel Alleges Process Abuse In London Trial, As Judge Admits Hazards In Proceeding
Counsel to Chief James Onanefe Ibori, yesterday, said there might be no fair trial in the confiscation hearing of James Ibori due to start in June at a Southwark Crown Court in London. According to a press statement signed by Ibori’s Media Assistant, Tony Eluemunor, Ibori’s lawyer said this during yesterday’s preliminary hearing preparatory to the confiscation trial against Ibori due to start in June. The lawyer, Mr. Ivan Krolic, said there were established cases of corruption against the police and the crown prosecution counsel who investigated Ibori. This, he said, had led to dropping every member of entire Police and Crown and prosecution teams that investigated Ibori and his associates. Mr. Krolic notified the court that following the revelation that Policemen involved in investigating Ibori for money laundering were themselves involved in corruption and were knowingly covered up by the Crown Prosecution, the integrity of the entire process had been put in doubt. He said: “There are cases of abuse of process against the crown prosecution to deliberately manipulate the process to gain undue advantage and inflate the confiscation figure which will require a stay of proceeding in this case to allow for the abuse of process to be dealt with.” Serious allegations The trial Judge, His Honour Tomlinson, acknowledging the precarious situation of Ibori case, especially the serious allegations of police corruption, which had led the Police authority itself to acknowledge the corruption charges, said this informed the reason to set up a review of the process and corruption allegations against its officers. The judge noted: “There are a lot of perceptions and it is inevitable that the team involved in the investigation and prosecution be changed following these allegations”. Putting the Judge on notice, should the confiscation trial begin as scheduled, while the application for crown and police abuse of process is held, Mr Krolic said: “Our argument is that the whole process is infected and it will be wrong for the confiscation hearing to continue. “The allegation is that the Crown consistently and deliberately manipulated the system and forced James Ibori to plead guilty and inflate the figures (of the money involved), in the light of the serious allegation of police corruption in this case,” he said. His Honour Tomlinson, replied: “I have an obligation to keep an open mind and keep this under constant review.” He said that having also read the statement of James Ibori’s former Defence Counsel, Mr Nicholas Purnell QC, that the Crown Counsels misled him to cause his client, James Ibori, to plead guilty, there were potentials in the statements.” He said that notwithstanding, the June start date of the confiscation hearing might hold, though he alerted that “a number of potential hazards to the proceedings have been flagged off”. Meanwhile, the confiscation hearing is due to start on June 6 at Southwark Crown in London. 45 0 1 0 YOU MAY LIKE No further talks till NLC calls off strike - FG - Vanguard News Army rescues second Chibok girl, Serah Luka & 97 women - Vanguard News Enyeama, Emenike return to Eagles - Vanguard News Retired army officer hangs self in Calabar - Vanguard News Saraki Trial: CCT chairman bows, entertains motion seeking his disqualification - Vanguard News Journalist on the run after escaping during trial - Vanguard News 2 Major-Generals to face court-martial over indiscipline - Vanguard News CCT chairman 'rules in favour' of Saraki - Vanguard News 17 Things That Will Convince You Australia Is CRAZY TravelTips4Life Americans Shocked as Iraqi Wins US Lottery theLotter.com Learn To Trade Online In One Hour Per Day Bforex Online Trading Explosive Kim & Kanye Divorce Secrets Revealed! One Million Chasing 10,000 Police Jobs
A slogan of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) says: “Police is Your Friend”. Police, indeed, are friends of the citizenry, because they are the ones everybody looks for when confronted with threats to life and property. But it is also true that the Police are not very popular with most people because the average policeman is generally perceived as being highhanded, corrupt, and unfriendly. They are also very poorly treated by the Federal Government. Few of our young people will voluntarily join the Police Force if they have the luxury of choice. It was an irony of sorts when the Police Service Commission (PSC) recently invited applications from qualified Nigerians for recruitment into the Force based on President Muhammadu Buhari’s approval for the recruitment of 10,000 policemen. The Commission had advertised for the hiring of 500 Cadet ASPs, 500 Cadet Inspectors, 1,500 Specialist Officers and 7, 500 Constables. Within a few days of the advertisement, officials of the PSC were astounded, if not shocked, by the response from applicants. According to Ikechukwu Ani, Head, Press and Public Relations of the Commission, between April 24 and May 2, 2016 no fewer than 843,008 applications had been received. A breakdown of this showed that 243,327 applications were received for ASP cadre, while 197,990 and 401,691 applied for the Inspector and Police Constable cadres, respectively. Soon after, the figure rose to over one million applicants, leaving many wondering if the Police was indeed as unpopular as generally held. Even the Inspector General of Police could not help but exclaim that he “never knew Nigerians liked the police this much that such a gargantuan number wants to join the Force.” It is, however, obvious that the stampede for police jobs has little to do with “popularity”. With an unemployment rate of 36.8 per cent of Nigeria’s over 170 million people, jobless Nigerians certainly cannot be too choosy when positions are advertised by any organisation. This was what informed the response by 6.5 million applicants to the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) recruitment in March 2014, which ended tragically with the death of 23 job seekers during a recruitment test. The Police authorities have to exercise extreme care in this recruitment drive, ensuring that only people who are suitably qualified with impeccable characters and backgrounds will be brought on board. The process of ascertaining this must be very painstaking to keep out bad eggs. The large number of applicants for every job opening, is an enduring warning bell over the worrisome unemployment situation. We urge governments at all levels to come up with radical ideas to put more of our idle youth to work and reduce the social consequences of high unemployment.

Ice Prince Dumps Chocolate City, To float Own Label
Record label, Chocolate City appears to be losing its artistes in droves. The latest to dump the Lekki-based music outfit is rap artiste, Ice Prince who has confirmed that he is no longer signed to Chocolate City.
The ‘Aboki’ crooner, who had an interview on 96.9 Cool FM on the Midday Oasis with Dotun and Temi, made it clear that his contract with the label, expired two years ago and due to his personal relationship with the label owners, decided not to make it public. He however, made it clear that he still has some working relationship with them.
The rapper who was signed in 2010 to the record label, has grown to become one of Africa’s most recognized rappers. The relationship has also spawned two albums, with countless hit singles.
Ice Prince has since moved on, working on floating his record label, Super Cool Cats. The rapper has in the past two years removed every public link between him and Chocolate City, wiping their signage off his social media handles, and also off his press releases.
The rapper is third act to announce departure from Chocolate City in the past six months, after the earlier departure of Kahli Abdu & VHS Safari, and rapper Milli. According to sources, he already has artistes signed to him, and will officially unveil them next week.
Ice Prince is set to release his third studio album titled "Jos to the world" which follows "Everybody loves Ice Prince"(2011) and "Fire of Zamani" (2013).
The rapper who is excited about the new project has since shared the development via his Instagram page, where he is seen with the likes of DJ Spinall, Yung L, Ladi Poe .
The 'Aboki' rapper and singer’s sophomore album “Fire of Zamani” met harsh reviews from critics and music analysts alike but that hasn’t seemed to discourage the pop act from firing on to his next body of work which we are going to see in “Jos to the world”.
COSON Challenges FG On Proper Engagement Of Entertainment Industry
Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) has pledged its support for the Federal Government in its effort to get the entertainment industry to contribute to reviving the nation’s ailing economy. The declaration was made by COSON chairman, Tony Okoroji while delivering his keynote address at the society’s 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lagos during the week. The COSON helmsman however, challenged the government to ensure that its actions match its words.
According to Chief Okoroji: “For us to play our role effectively, the government cannot pretend to understand our problems because it does not. The government must engage us closely, listen to our issues and then take action instead of just talking. In other words, the actions of the government must match its words.
“For instance, the government cannot say that it wants the entertainment industry to grow the economy and yet looks the other way while government agencies engage in horrendous copyright infringement.
“Since the present government took over, we have repeatedly called for the activation of the private copy levy scheme provided for under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We have received no reaction whatsoever from a government that says that it is interested in growing the entertainment industry”.
Okoroji said further, “Around the continent, pirated Nigerian music dominates the airwaves and music shops. We believe that a government which wants to grow our entertainment industry must take interest and engage meaningfully with these nations at the diplomatic and international trade levels and ensure that these national assets are not frittered away”
Chief Okoroji also announced the development of a very sophisticated computer system that can fully capture the documentation, distribution and financial transactions at COSON. According to Okoroji, “Our new system called the COSONET will enable each member of the society access the records of his works with the society from the comfort of his bedroom and permit him or her to update his works when necessary from wherever he or she might be.
The COSONET will also enable each member to monitor royalties accruing to him or her and generate a report of the royalties and their sources. It should also make it possible for instant royalty distribution, whether general or specific, removing the frustrating wait that some of us go through to receive our royalties”. He said that with the COSONET which is presently being test run, in operation, COSON would have achieved 100% transparency and accountability.
Commenting on the massive cases filed recently by COSON against the Federal government owned FRCN and telecommunications giant, MTN Chief Okoroji promised that more such high profile cases will be filed soon. According to the Chairman, COSON does not go to court frivolously. In his words, “In each case that we have taken a user to court, we must have satisfied ourselves, that all none-adversarial methods of resolving the problem had been exhausted. The cases send a loud and clear message to everyone that the era of free music in Nigeria is gone”.
Chief Okoroji also Identified the factors which have resulted in the rapid growth of COSON and its ability to collect and distribute several hundreds of millions of Naira in only six years of operation as consistency, transparency and stability.
At the elections that took place during the AGM, four members of the Board: Mr. Joel Ajayi, Mr. Obi Asika, Mr. Efe Omorogbe and Alhaji Sikiru Agboola were returned to the Board.
Among the many top music industry stakeholders present at the event were Afro juju maestro, Sir Shina Peters, ace music producer, Laolu Akins the rainmaker and Nigeria reggae legend, Majek Fashek, Music Label top guns, Obi Asika and Audu Maikori, Eko ogba gbere crooner, Pa Chris Ajilo and reknowned guitarist, Feladey and amiable singer, Stella Delight among several others. The Director-General of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) was also represented by Mr. Obi Ezeilo, Zonal Manager, Lagos.

Trump's Relations with Women Getting New Look
Donald Trump's treatment of women through the years — the executives he's hired by day for his real estate development business and the beautiful women he's pursued at night — is getting a new look by U.S. media now that he is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
Two of the country's most prominent news outlets —The Washington Post and The New York Times — both published stories in recent days looking in detail at Trump's past connections with women.
They comprise the majority of the U.S. electorate Trump would face in November's national presidential election against the likely Democratic nominee, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is seeking to become the country's first female president.
Trump as his own publicist?
The Post reported that for years in the 1990s Trump masqueraded as his own publicist, often calling himself "John Miller" or "John Barron" in calls with reporters as he bragged about his exploits with women while he was married to the first of his three wives, Ivana Trump.
In one taped interview, a man claiming to be Trump's spokesman but with a voice sounding like Trump, said, "Actresses just call to see if they can go out with him and things."
The publicist assured the reporter that Trump treated his wife well as would he his new girlfriend, Marla Maples, who became his second wife.
In the interview, Miller referred to Trump as "he," but lapsed into the first person, too, as he talked about one Trump conquest.
"I think it's somebody that — you know, she's beautiful. I saw her once, quickly and beautiful...," he said before continuing the conversation in the third person.
Trump denied that the voice on the tape was his, but he testified in a 1990 court case that he used the alter ego Miller "on occasion."
The Times said that more than 50 interviews it conducted with women Trump has encountered through the years "reveal unwelcome romantic advances, unending commentary on the female form, a shrewd reliance on ambitious women, and unsettling workplace conduct."
Complex assessment
"What emerges from the interviews is a complex, at times contradictory portrait of a wealthy, well-known and provocative man and the women around him, one that defies simple categorization," the article said. "Some women found him gracious and encouraging. He promoted several to the loftiest heights of his company, a daring move for a major real estate developer at the time."
The newspaper said, "He simultaneously nurtured women’s careers and mocked their physical appearance."
One beauty contest entrant recalled Trump introducing himself to her and abruptly kissing her "directly on the lips. I thought, 'Oh my God, gross.'"
A New York public official, a woman, remembered Trump cutting short a meeting as he announced, "I have this great date tonight with a model for Victoria's Secret," a lingerie retailer.
As he surged to the top of the once-crowded field of 17 Republican presidential contenders, Trump often has described himself as a champion of women's rights. He has branded Clinton as an "enabler" of infidelities committed by her husband, former President Bill Clinton.
After the Times story was published Sunday, Trump tweeted, "Everyone continues to pile onto Donald, but they can NEVER take away our votes."
In another tweet, he said, "The failing NYTimes wrote yet another hit piece on me. All are impressed with how nicely I have treated women, they found nothing. A joke!"
Party chairman
Asked about Trump's relations with women, the Republican national chairman, Reince Preibus, told ABC on Sunday, "These are things that he's going to have to answer for."
But Priebus said voters are more interested in what he would do as a possible president.
"I don’t think Donald Trump is being judged based on his personal life," Priebus said. "I think people are judging Donald Trump as to whether or not he’s someone that’s going to go to Washington and shake things up. And that’s why he’s doing so well."
Six months ahead of the national election, political surveys show Clinton with about a 6 percentage-point edge over Trump.
The winner will succeed President Barack Obama when he leaves office next January after eight years in the White House.
Nigerian Labor Union Vows Strike Will Take Place As Planned
Nigerian labor and civil society groups have vowed that their strike planned for Wednesday against hike in fuel prices will go on as scheduled.
The Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had called for an indefinite strike unless the price of gasoline was reduced from 145 naira or 73 cents per gallon to 86.50 naira or 43 cents per gallon.
The government said it recommended the increases to end shortages caused by a foreign exchange crisis. The government announced Monday it had scheduled talks with the union on the issue.
But Abiodun Aremu, secretary general of the labor and civil society coalition of Nigeria, says the government must first rescind the act imposing the fuel price hike before any talks will take place.
“With respect to the current strike, the issues are really two. We are demanding the reversal of the fuel act from 145 back to 86 naira 50. We are also demanding the reversal of the electricity act that was done on February first 2016. There is no way that any discussion now with the government will affect the strike except there is a reversal because the government did not consult with us before it unilaterally impose the act,” he said.
Aremu accused the government of engaging in a campaign of misinformation.
“What happened is that after the government made an overture to labor and the labor leadership insisted that they must formalize their invitation to meet with them. The position of the NLC, TUC and the civil society on this matter is clear. For any meaningful discussions on those reversals, the government must reverse first because we were never consulted before that unilateral imposition,” Aremu said.
He said the labor and civil society coalition will hold a news conference Tuesday to make known their plan of action for Wednesday’s strike.
Analysts say any industrial action would exacerbate economic pressures in the Nigerian economy caused by the global slump in crude prices, which has drastically cut revenue from oil sales.
The government said it increased the price of gasoline and deregulated the fuel import market to try to end shortages caused by the foreign exchange crisis.
Aremu said the Nigerian government has used deregulation to enrich the few rich classes in Nigeria and punish the poor.
Fuel Price Hike: Reps Urge NLC To Suspend Planned Strike, To Meet Labour Leaders
The House of Representatives has urged the Nigerian Labour Congress to suspend its planned strike over the hike in the price of petrol.
Premium Times reports that the lawmakers, after their meeting with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, during a special session on Monday, set up an ad hoc committee, comprising heads of relevant committees, including those of downstream, upstream and Navy, to meet with Labour and government.
The ad hoc committee is headed by the House Whip, Alhassan Doguwa (APC, Kano).
The motion urging workers to suspend the planned strike was moved by Nicholas Ossai (APC).
The committee has five days to conclude its assignment.
Although PDP members, who earlier opposed Mr. Kachikwu's admittance to the green chamber, loudly opposed the motion by voicing "nay", Speaker Yakubu Dogara ruled that the "ayes have it".
Thereafter, PDP lawmakers from the House and the Senate went into a closed-door meeting, presided over by Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio.
The reason for the meeting remained unclear but some members said the lawmakers were discussing a robust opposition response to the fuel price hike.
In their dramatic opposition to Mr. Kachikwu's admittance, several PDP lawmakers had waved Nigerian flag, singing "all we are saying... save Nigeria", plunging the House into a rowdy session before order was restored.
The House then dissolved into a closed-door session and later resolved to interact with Mr. Kachikwu.
Briefing the lawmakers in plenary, Mr. Kachikwu said if fuel price was not increased, long queues would return fully, and that the Federation Account Allocations Committee would have no money to distribute to the federation units.

FIFA Appoints First Female Secretay General, Fatima Samoura Diouf
The new president of the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA), Gianni Infantino has appointed the first ever female secretary general of the football-ruling body, Fatima Samoura Diouf.
Associated Press reports that FIFA's corruption crisis was declared to be over by President Gianni Infantino on Friday as the scandal-battered governing body broke new ground by appointing a Senegalese United Nations official as its first female and first non-European secretary general.
Fatma Samoura has no experience working in sports but Infantino hopes that will help it try to regain the trust and credibility of the world after far-reaching corruption, bribery, and financial misconduct.
The organisation also swelled to 211 members after Gibraltar and Kosovo were admitted.
"Nobody can change the past but I can shape the future," Infantino told his first FIFA Congress as president since succeeding the banned Sepp Blatter. "FIFA is back on track. So I can officially inform you here, the crisis is over."
Blatter also said in December 2014 that "the crisis has stopped" after previous bribery cases. But within a year 42 officials and entities linked to soccer were indicted in an American investigation into bribery and corruption.
The 54-year-old Samoura will replace the fired Jerome Valcke, who was banned from all football-related activity for 12 years for misconduct, if she passes an eligibility check. She is currently working in development for the U.N. in Nigeria.
"We want to embrace diversity and we believe in gender equality," Infantino said.
Samoura is currently working in development for the U.N. in Nigeria.
"Today is a wonderful day for me, and I am honored to take on the role of FIFA's Secretary General," Samoura said in a statement. "I believe this role is a perfect fit for my skills and experience -- strategic, high impact team building in international settings -- which I will use to help grow the game of football all over the world.
"I also look forward to bringing my experience in governance and compliance to bear on the important reform work that is already underway at FIFA.
"FIFA is taking a fresh approach to its work -- and I am eager to play a role in making that approach as effective and lasting as possible."
FIFA expects her to start work at its Zurich headquarters in mid-June, with just a year until Russia hosts the Confederations Cup, the 2018 World Cup warm-up event, and ongoing concerns about preparations for the 2022 tournament in Qatar.
"She is used to managing big organisations, big budgets, human resources, finance," Infantino told FIFA's membership. "She will bring a fresh wind to FIFA -- somebody from outside not somebody from inside, not somebody from the past. Somebody new, somebody who can help us do the right thing in the future."
In a shakeup of FIFA designed by a reforms panel in the wake of scandals, a separation of powers is being implemented that is intended to hand the CEO-like secretary general control of business operations.
"I don't know her at all but I think it's a very important gesture toward gender equity, to recognising other continents, and apparently she is a formidable personality," said Francois Carrard, who headed the panel.
Samoura, who speaks French, English, Spanish, and Italian, appears to have no experience dealing with commercial deals and broadcasters -- a key part of the job as FIFA's top administrator. Infantino appears to have more experience in those areas, given he was elected FIFA president in February after nine years leading UEFA's business operations as general secretary.
Asked about her lack of business experience, Carrard said: "The operations will be done by the whole management."
FIFA pointed to Samoura's experience coordinating the activities of around 2,000 U.N. staff with oversight over security in Nigeria.
"She has a proven ability to build and lead teams, and improve the way organizations perform," Infantino said. "Importantly for FIFA, she also understands that transparency and accountability are at the heart of any well-run and responsible organisation."
Also on Friday, FIFA lifted Indonesia's suspension from world football. Indonesian national and club teams, referees, and officials were banned over government interference in the running of the national federation.
Indonesia was readmitted after the government agreed to end its suspension of the football federation, but the national team has missed out on qualifying for the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup while banned.
Benin joined Kuwait in being suspended due to government interference in their federations' independence.
