Adele Turns Down Super Bowl Half-time Gig, But NFL Denies It
Is British superstar Adele mistaken? After saying she rejected an offer to headline the 2017 Super Bowl half-time show, the US sports hosts have come out denying any such offer.
British superstar Adele has revealed she knocked back an offer to perform at one of the biggest gigs on the US calendar.
During a concert at the Los Angeles' Staples Centre on Saturday night, the singer shot down rumours she would headline the prestigious Super Bowl half-time show in February 2017.
Singer Adele says she refused a Super Bowl halftime gig because "that show's not about music..."
"First of all I have to tell you I'm not doing the Super Bowl," Adele said, prompting boos from the crowd. "Well, come on! Come on, that show's not about music and I don't dance or anything like that."
"They were very kind. They did ask me, but I did say no. I'm sorry."
Adele had been a hot favourite to perform, with British newspaper The Sun reporting last week that NFL bosses were "desperately trying to land Adele for what is one of the world's most-watched sporting events".
But the NFL, and the halftime show's official sponsor, Pepsi, have denied any such request.

In an official statement, they said: "The NFL and Pepsi are big fans of Adele. We have had conversations with several artists about the Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. However, we have not at this point extended a formal offer to Adele or anyone else.
"We are focused on putting together a fantastic show for Houston and we look forward to revealing that in good time."
The annual Super Bowl half-time show is almost as important as the game itself and is watched by more than 100 million people in the United States alone.
An NFL source reportedly told The Sun: "There is nobody bigger in the world than Adele right now and organisers are doing absolutely everything they can to try to persuade her to sign up."
"She's sold out every date on her tour, everyone wants a piece of her and they know they can bank on her bringing in the viewers."
The singer would have joined a list of icons who have performed, including the Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson and Prince.
Recent performers have included Katy Perry and Madonna. Last year, Beyonce performed a medley alongside Coldplay and Bruno Mars.
Adele didn't rule out performing at the Super Bowl in the future and also hinted that her new album would head in an entirely different musical direction.
"Maybe next time, for my next album, because I'm going to do a dance album next time. So maybe I'll do it then," she said.
The singer is currently on a sold-out, year-long tour of North America and Europe. No Australian dates have been scheduled, but revealed in July she was planning an Australian tour.
