Beyonce's visual album Lemonade has led the nominations for the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards, receiving a stunning 11 nods.
The result is a career-best for the singer, who has never before received as many nominations at a single VMA.
Beyonce dominates MTV video nominations
Beyonce's Lemonade has earned her 11 nominations at the MTV Video Music Awards. Adele and Kanye West also walked away with multiple nods, but surprisingly nothing for Taylor Swift.
Adele also stacked the categories with her comeback ballad Hello, which will go up against Beyonce's Formation in the Video of the Year category.
In an awards ceremony shaping up to be a major win for female artists, Taylor Swift is noticeably absent.
The 26-year-old singer was nominated for 10 awards last year. However, Swift's one eligible video, Out of the Woods, was left off the nominee list.
Rap's biggest names are also strong contenders at the 2016 MTV VMAs.
Drake's instant-classic Hotline Bling is up for two awards, including Video of the Year, as are Kanye West's Famous and Justin Bieber's Sorry.
West was blasted last month for his Famous video clip, which features sleeping actors who had been styled to look like a naked Taylor Swift, Donald Trump, Rihanna and Caitlyn Jenner.
Australian singer Sia is up for the Best Female Video gong for Cheap Thrills, while Rihanna has also been nominated for her two collaborations with Drake on Work and Calvin Harris on This Is What You Came For.
Last month, it sensationally emerged that Taylor Swift had written the song for ex-boyfriend Harris under the pseudonym, Nils Sjöberg.
The MTV VMAs will take place on August 28 at New York's Madison Square Garden for the first time, making the pilgrimage from Los Angeles.
