Uzo Chikere
For the very first time Nigerians will witness a spectacle in the movie industry when ZAFAA Global Awards hits Lagos. The event described as the biggest African movie event outside Africa, having been featuring in the UK over the years, is being organized and promoted in Nigeria by Nollywood Entertainment Ltd. UK and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) for the first time.
Slated to hold at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos on October 31, 2015, ZAFAA, according to its director of operations, Chinedu Onyekwuru, was being brought to Nigeria in Africa for the first time due to its strategic partnership with NTA as well as to recognize the artistic talent that abound in the continent.
On the part of NTA, having observed through its interaction with ZAFAA promoters over the years, that it was promoting Africa and Nollywood in Europe, it considered it expedient to collaborate with the orgnisers to bring the prestigious event home to Nigeria.
From its inception in 2006, ZAFAA has grown to become the biggest African movie event outside Africa, structured as an exhibition of Africa’s post-colonial entertainment savvy and culture. It is regarded as part of the cultural Calendar of the UK featuring film exhibition, festival, academy and awards across two days culminating in the awards night.
For the Nigerian maiden edition, the rich repertoire of Nigeria’s diverse cultural dances will be displayed alongside the presence of movie stars from the UK, US and Africa at the show.
With the wide rich of NTA, said the organisers, it promises to be a celebration of African creativity, resilience and excellence.
