From every indication, the Pretty Okafor-led Performing Musicians Employer Association of Nigeria (PMAN) is poised to bring back dance to the toes of Nigerians. Shrugging off the drudgery occasioned by the long-drawn factional squabble that had bedeviled the musicians’ body for quite some time now, it has concluded plans to stage mega music concert dubbed Lagos Urban Music Festival (LUMFEST) October 1, 2015.
The main drivers of the project, PMAN at a press briefing during the week disclosed that LUMFEST which is being staged in partnership with the Lagos State Government would set the city of aquatic splendor on fire when 50 artistes professing various music genre and 10 disc jockeys would besiege three stages to be rigged up on the grounds of Freedom Park, Lagos, for the jam. The Lagos State Ministry of Arts and Culture will be working with PMAN in this regard.
According to Baba Dee who outlined the details of the concert, it is designed to showcase, as well as celebrate in music form the story of music in Nigeria, adding that it would be facilitated by pictorial and art exhibitions depicting the musical journey in the country.
To further power the show, PMAN will also be partnering with such outfits as Chocolate City, Naija Ninja, Eddy Lawani Associates, and Lagos State Censorship Board. Partnering with the musicians’ body on the project also are, Tecno and Airtel among others.
Some of the acts to perform at the festival include MI, Reminisce, Mode 9, Ruggedman, Yemi Alade, Sound Sultan and JJC. Others are, Tu-Face, Dammy Krane, Jesse Jags, Partoranking, Marvelous Benjy, Sunny Neji, Maydee, Black Magic, Shina Peters, Baba Dee and General Pype just to mention a few.
Speaking on behalf of Lagos State Ministry of Art and Culture, Mr. Dele Balogun said that the state decided to partner with PMAN on the project in view of the fact that they shared the same vision in that direction. Describing the musicians’ body as one of the authentic bodies of entertainment in Nigeria, Balogun congratulated PMAN for the initiative.
