Officer no matter how highly placed, who is found culpable in the abduction saga of Ese Oruru, who was said to have been abducted and forced into marriage in Kano,” a statement by the commission said.

Cotinuing, the statement signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Public Relations said:  “The commission is waiting on the on-going investigation of some police officers on the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, and will ensure that any police officer found to have compromised himself either by omission or commission in the saga will be flushed out.”

Commending the IGP for his swift action in rescuing the teenager and ensuring that she was immediately reunited with her family, the PSC said it would work with the IGP to see that Nigerians, including the likes of Ese, were guaranteed their freedom to life.

In another related development, Bayelsa State government has set up a medical team including psychologists and other experts, to support Ese Oruru on her road to recovery according to the State Governor, Seriake Dickson.

Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) has thrown challenged the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the long awaited copyright levy scheme without any further delay.

In a recent letter signed by COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji and addressed to the Honourable Minister of Information & Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, copies of which were sent to President Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Attorney- General of the Federation and several ministers, COSON lamented the unending protocol, red tape and bureaucracy in the Federal government system which have made it impossible for the stakeholders in the creative industries to benefit from the copyright levy scheme more than 22 years after the law was enacted.

According to the letter, “Section 40 of the Nigerian Copyright Act which provides for the Private Copy Levy has been part of Nigerian law for over 22 years. It was rightly enacted to provide badly needed cushion for practitioners and investors in the creative industry who suffer immensely from the corrosive effect of the unbridled copying and downloading of music, movies and literature.
“Unfortunately, the private copy levy scheme which has for a long time been an important source of income for the creative industries in many countries around the world, including some in our sub region like Ghana and Burkina Faso is yet to see the light of day in Nigeria, one of the world’s most significant producers of music, movies and literary works”
COSON insisted in the letter that with the Private Copy Levy in full operation, the government may no longer need to directly give money to individuals or associations in the creative sector because the stakeholders can earn their own money.

Also in the letter, COSON said that it was aware that the required Order to activate the Private copy levy scheme was made by the immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation & Minister of Justice and published in the Federal Gazette but that the necessary follow up to direct the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigerian Copyright Commission to activate the scheme did not take place.

COSON therefore requested the Minister of Information & Culture to use his good offices to get the government of President Muhammadu Buhari to give the necessary directives for the Private Copy Levy Scheme to take off so that Nigeria can unshackle its music, movies and literary industries and start the process of providing the right environment for the creation of investments, jobs and growth in that part of the economy.

Some may ask: What is the Private Copy Levy? With the advent of new technology, most people no longer obtain their music or movies by buying music cassettes, CDs or DVDs. They down load or blue-tooth them for free and deny owners of the works significant revenue. To compensate for this huge loss which threatens the survival of the creative industries, in many countries around the world, a small levy is charged on the gadgets used for this stealing of intellectual property. The money collected from the levy of such gadgets such as MP3s, MP4s, cellphones, memory cards, flash drives, etc, is paid through the collective management system to the artistes, writers and producers whose music, movies and books are stolen. About 23 years ago, Nigeria became the first country in Africa to provide for the levy in our laws. Sadly, since then, Nigeria has been unable to implement the scheme due to the suffocating bureaucracy. Rapper Artiste, Milli, Dumps Chocolate City Record Label

Highly rated rapper, Milli, has dumped Chocolate City.

The rapper was signed by M.I Abaga to Loopy Music in 2013, but made a splash during the 2015 merger of the record label with Chocolate City as one of the artistes who were officially signed.

He went on to release a number of singles on the record label, as well as featuring on their 2015 compilation album, ‘The Indestructible Choc Boi Nation’.

According to reliable sources within the Chocolate City camp and sources close to the rapper, Milli has split ways with the label. Reasons for his split was unclear, but the young rapper who many had likened to US act Drake was deep in work on his debut body of work, an EP titled “Childish EP.”

Songs off the EP had already been released, including the promoted ‘Unlooking’, and ‘The Saga’.

Milli has taken Chocolate City off his social media handles, changing his booking handle to ‘savemilli@gmail,com’. He is currently strategizing, working on new material on a new imprint titled UpNext Universe. He has already shot new videos for his songs.

Milli’s profile is still live on the Chocolate City website, but the rapper has severed every link with Chocolate City on all his profiles online.

Although the rapper is out of Chocolate City, he still maintains a healthy relationship with M.I Abaga who recently tweeted about the rapper.

Just like a movie with flashback scenes, Love Like A Movie, exhibited some pretty awesome throwbacks from the likes of Blackky, Styl Plus, Jazzman Olofin and Weird MC.

Blackky opened up the throwback scene of the concert with his reggae single ‘Rosie’ released in the nineties.

This was followed by a performance from Styl Plus. The duo performed their hit Olufunmi’ as well as ‘Imagine that’. Both songs were hits in the early 00s.

Jazzman Olofin followed after Styl Plus and performed his party starter ‘Raise the roof’.

Soon after, Weird MC gave an energetic rendition of ‘Ijo ya’ and closed the throwback chapter at the event. The throwback segment of the event had the  audience on their feet singing along and dancing. 

Love Like A Movie 3 also saw performances from Darey, American singer Ciara, as well as other Nigerian acts including Olamide, Adekunle Gold, Simi, Ruby Gyang, Sound Sultan, Tolu and Sammy.

The Nigeria Police Force expected today to invite the abducted 14-year-girl allegedly forced into child marriage, Ese Oruru, with her parents in Abuja according to reaching Beats-onit .

This followed her parents’ inability to make it to the Nigerian Police force headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking to reporters gathered at the headquarters at 7:25 pm, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olabisi Kolawola, said the expected parents were still at Abaji, at the border town between Abuja and Kogi State, and that it was not certain when they would arrive at the police headquarters to collect their daughter.

She, however, noted that Ese Oruru, who arrived at the Force Headquarters at 12:50pm, in company of some police officers and the alleged abductor, Yunusa, was doing well.

Journalists were, however, not allowed to see her and will have to wait for when she is handed over to her parents today to catch a proper glimpse of her, and probably the culprit in her abduction, Yunusa.

Young Ese was allegedly kidnapped by Yunusa in Opolo, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, in August 2015 and renamed Aishat on arriving in Kano State, where the man claimed that he had converted her to Islam and married her.

Emir of Kano, His Royal Highness, Muhammad Sanusi II, had ordered the Shariah Court sitting in Kano to immediately release Ese to the Police AIG, Zone 1, Kano, to commence the process of returning her to her parents.

The emir, in his first official response since the abduction of the youngster was made public, distanced himself and the Kano Emirate Council from the purported abduction by her suspected lover.

LEADERSHIP reports that the abducted 14-year-old Ese Oruru was freed from her ‘husband-abductor’ on Monday, following the orders of the emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, and the inspector-general of police, Solomon Arase.

The pathetic story of Oruru elicited outrage on social media among Nigerians as they called for her immediate freedom and prosecution of those complicit in her ordeal.

Ese was 13 at the time of her alleged abduction by Yunusa who ferried her to Kano and kept her as wife despite the girls’ parents calling for her return. Ese’s parents had since last August made trips to Kano, trying to retrieve their daughter.

The parents said they had involved the police, but efforts to get the Emir to intervene were fruitless.

However, Nigerians took to the social media to launch a campaign – #FreeEse, calling for the immediate release of the Urhobo-born teenager, whose mother, Mrs. Rose Oruru, is a food vendor in Opolo, Bayelsa State.
