ANACOWA
Disobeys Court Injunction, Elects Officers
Uzo Chikere
Despite a court injunction stopping the election of
principal officers of the Association of Motorcycle Owners and Riders
Association, Lagos state with the acronym ANACOWA, an affiliate of Road
Transport Employers Association, a faction of the group defied the sanction to
impose its officers.
The court order (BB/803GCM/2015) which was issued from
Badagry High Court to stop the election that was billed to take place last
Friday, October 30, 2015, The Union authoritatively gathered was snubbed when
the bailiff went to the secretariat on Thursday, October 29 to serve it.
Rasaq Aliu Adisa is the plaintiff while Alhaji Musa
Mohammed, Registered trustees of Road Transport Owners Association, Registered
Trustees of ANACOWA and Suleiman Raji are defendants.
The Chairmanship race was between Alhaji Suleiman Raji,
alias Jafo and Alhaji Rasaq Aliu Adisa alias Moralist.
Faction of the association loyal to Adisa has cried foul on
the emergence of Raji as they told The Union that the purported election was a
‘Kangaro election’ as it was manipulated to favour Raji.
They claimed that there was blatant disobedience of the
court order by the Raji group.
Also they complained to The Union that the election was a
fraud as there was no electoral committee, no electoral chairman and illegal
collection fees for sale of forms.
A member of Adisa faction, who identified himself as Lekan
told TheNiche ‘’ the emergence of Jafo (Suleiman Raji) is unacceptable to us
and we want the government to intervene. We wanted to obey the court injunction
but the Jafo group disobeyed and went along to conduct their kangaroo
selection. I hope the court will ensure that justice takes it cause”
‘’we cannot accept the kangaroo selection that took place at
our secretariat at Akesan, Igando. We will resist it and we want the Lagos
state government to intervene before we start causing havoc.
Adisa told The Union that ‘’what took place is unacceptable
and I think the court should not take kindly its order that was violated. We
want to be law abiding but if we cannot get justice from the court then we will
go the confrontational way. But I hope nobody will blame us then”
